The project

The homeowners arrived with one priority stated three different ways. They wanted control over the light.

A primary bedroom dark enough to actually sleep in. A great room that kept its view without the afternoon glare. A patio that stopped being unusable right when they wanted to eat outside.

Every room needed a different amount of light control, which is exactly the situation where product selection stops being a formality.

Duette® with LightLock™ in the primary bedroom

Most blackout shades are not. They block light through the fabric and leak it around the edges, which is why you can still read the ceiling at six in the morning.

LightLock™ deals with the edges. U-shaped side channels seal the shade into the window opening so the light has nowhere to get around. Paired with Duette's cellular construction, the room stays dark and holds its temperature.

It is motorized, so the shade runs on a schedule or a single button. Nobody has to remember.

Dual roller shades in the great room

The main living area faces west, which is lovely for most of the day and punishing for the last part of it.

Dual rollers put two fabrics on one bracket. A sheer that cuts glare while keeping the view, and a blackout that comes down when the sun drops low enough to make the room uncomfortable.

It stops being a choice between the view and being able to sit there.

A motorized exterior screen on the patio

The patio had the same western exposure and no glass to hide behind. Dinner outside meant squinting into the sun.

The fix goes outside. An exterior screen stops heat before it reaches the house rather than after, which is why the patio actually feels different instead of just looking shadier.

This one is a Shade Sense system, engineered for Colorado wind, with side tracks that hold the screen steady and let it stop anywhere between fully up and fully down.

Why these products were the right choice

Three spaces, three genuinely different problems, three different answers.

LightLock™ produced a bedroom that is dark when it should be. The dual rollers gave the great room a way to adapt hour by hour instead of committing to one setting. The exterior screen turned the patio back into a room the family uses.
